Craig Goes to Norway

9:45 AM -- Craig Wireless Systems Ltd. is one of six license winners in Norway's 2.6 GHz mobile broadband auction, which totaled $43 million. Norway is now the Canadian operator's second European market after Greece, where it is building a WiMax network to serve rural areas. (See Craig Wireless Deploys Nortel, Norwegians Still Bidding, and Europe Makes Way for WiMax.)

The other 2.6 GHz license winners are Arctic Wireless AS, Hafslund Telekom AS, NetCom AS , and Telenor Group (Nasdaq: TELN). NetCom and Telenor both won paired spectrum for UMTS systems, while the other operators all won unpaired spectrum, which is suitable for WiMax networks. Check out the spectrum allocation chart here to see who got what.

In addition, Inquam Broadband GmbH was awarded a license for unpaired spectrum in the 2010 to 2025 MHz band. (See Inquam lands Another Euro WiMax License, NextWave Buys Into More Euro WiMax, WiMax Gestoppt!, and AlcaLu Builds WiMax in Germany.)
