Cox-TiVo Update

On Thursday, we speculated that Cox Communications Inc. might conduct its initial tech trials of TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO) digital video recorder (DVR) software running on Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT)-made digital set-tops in Rhode Island, considered the flagship property of the MSO's New England region. (See Cox Tees Up TiVo Test Bed .)

No need to speculate any further. According to an email from Cox received on Friday morning, the tech trial occurred in one of the MSO's Connecticut systems. The company declined to disclose the exact location of the trial in the state.

The Cox spokesman noted the next step with TiVo will involve a "market trial with customers and friendlies," but the overall product goal is to deploy the TiVo combo across the MSO's New England footprint.
