SHELTON, Conn. -- TranSwitch® Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of high-speed Broadband, Switching, and Transport semiconductor solutions for voice, data and video communications, today announced that Covaro Networks has selected TranSwitch's PacketTrunk-4TM device to implement TDMoIP® circuit emulation in Covaro Networks products. Covaro, the developer of Etherjack® technology that enables carriers to deliver intelligent Ethernet services for small and medium businesses, selected the TranSwitch device for its clock recovery technology, which gives them a robust circuit emulated TDM.

“PacketTrunk-4 allows us to provide our customers with a high quality circuit emulated TDM signal as a result of its superior clock recovery performance,” said Paul Elias, co-founder and chief technical officer of Covaro Networks. “It enables carriers to deliver both TDM and packet-based services over a common packet infrastructure and is a key step towards network convergence over an intelligent Ethernet infrastructure.”

According to Sanjay Iyer, a senior industry analyst with The Linley Group, “PacketTrunk-4 provides an inexpensive and reliable way to add TDMoIP support to networking equipment, especially compared with programmable solutions. The existing worldwide installed base of 20,000 TDMoIP ports gives TranSwitch a significant lead in setting the world standard for circuit emulation over IP, MPLS, and Ethernet, paving the way towards a fully converged IP core network.”
