QUEBEC CITY -- CorActive, an independent manufacturer of advanced specialty optical fiber products, announces general availability of an efficient, high absorption Polarization Maintaining (PM) Erbium doped single clad fiber. This CorActive Erbium Doped Fiber has been specifically designed to maximize absorption while maintaining an efficient energy transfer to enable optimized C & L band PM laser and EDFA applications.

CorActive’s Er-25-05-PM features a highly doped photosensitive Erbium core in a panda-style polarization maintaining fiber and offers very high power conversion efficiency (70% - 1480 nm pumped) and peak absorption (25 dB/m at 1530 nm) to minimize the fiber length and pump power requirements. CorActive has perfected a high doping concentration process so that fiber lengths are kept to a minimum to reduce unwanted non-linear effects. The Er-25-05-PM is based on standard 125um fiber geometry and can be used with available standard PM fibers and components. Non-polarization maintaining versions of the fiber are also available (Er-25-05 and HCO 4000).

Due to the uniform photosensitivity and high peak absorption of CorActive’s Er-25-05 fibers, a primary application is the Distributed Feedback (DFB) Laser where the fiber length is fixed and power output levels are governed by the absorption and efficiency of the fiber. Optimized Fiber Bragg Gratings, enabled by the uniform photosensitivity, ensure reduced noise in the laser output. The high peak absorption of the Er-25-05 fibers enables superior optical amplification in the C & L band windows. This results in reduced fiber lengths for C Band amplifiers and efficient amplification in the L Band.
