PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Copper Mountain Networks (Nasdaq:CMTN) has selected the Intel(R) IXP1250 Network Processor and the Intel(R) Pentium(R)-processor-based Intel(R) NetStructure(TM) ZT 5502 System Master Processor Board for its new VantEdge(TM) 3000/3300 Broadband Services Concentrator. Copper Mountain's VantEdge Broadband Services Concentrator was designed specifically to maximize the potential of the central office (CO) to increase revenue, lower costs, and simplify access networking for service providers. VantEdge is an innovative platform designed to provide wire-speed "intelligent concentration" of broadband subscribers and subtended broadband access devices. VantEdge was architected specifically for the CO, enabling a step-function improvement in broadband service offerings and cost savings for today's leading service providers. The IXP1250 Network Processor, the newest of the Intel(R) Internet Exchange Architecture (IXA) line of building blocks for packet processing, combines a high-performance, low-power core processor with multiple programmable microengines. This combination of performance and programmability enables a service provider to quickly provision robust applications on the VantEdge and then reuse the software on future generations of products based on IXA building blocks. In addition, the IXP1250 Network Processor offers additional hardware-based features that help the VantEdge address the telecommunications industry's "five-nines" (99.999 percent) service availability requirements. "Carriers need robust subscriber/service aggregation and Quality of Service support in the access network as their subscriber bases expand and the complexity of their service mix grows," said Rick Gilbert, president and chief executive officer of Copper Mountain Networks. "The performance and programmability of the Intel IXP1250 Network Processor and the Intel Pentium III processor meet the stringent functionality and performance requirements of Copper Mountain's VantEdge Broadband Services Concentrator. As a result, the VantEdge can provide the features and support that carriers must have to deliver cost-effective, margin-enhancing high-value services."Copper Mountain Networks Inc. Intel Corp.
