NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -– Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, today announced the Accelity family of highlyintegrated very high-speed digital subscriber line (VDSL) and VDSL2 central office (CO)and customer premise equipment (CPE) semiconductor solutions. The Accelity familyincludes VDSL and VDSL2 system solutions for asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) andpacket-based digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs) and client-sideterminals.

The new devices are targeted at triple-play broadband service deployments, remoteterminal and fiber extension applications, and provide operators and manufacturers with thelowest total system cost available today. VDSL2 technology provides higher downstreamand upstream data rates than ADSL and ADSL2plus, and longer reach connectivity thanVDSL. The Accelity chipset family is based on industry-standard discrete multi-tone(DMT) line code technology, and is compliant with the recently ratified VDSL2/G.993.2International Telecommunications Union standard. Production devices are available nowand are shipping to customers worldwide.

“Our new VDSL chipset family builds on our proven track record in DSL innovationand digital signal processing to raise the bar in terms of density, and lower overall systemcost,” said Akram Atallah, vice president and general manager of Conexant’s BroadbandAccess business. “Conexant has shipped more than 130 million DSL ports to customersglobally, and we will continue to develop standards-based products to further strengthen ourindustry-leading position in broadband access semiconductor solutions.”

According to industry analyst firm IDC, VDSL integrated circuit (IC) port shipmentsare expected to increase from 6.2 million ports in 2003 to 17.8 million ports in 2008, a 24percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

“The early availability of production-grade VDSL2 silicon will be key todriving aggressive deployment for these systems in 2005 and 2006,” said SeanLavey, a program manager at IDC. “We believe most DSL OEMs will favor chip vendorswith an extensive knowledge and track record of delivering standards-based DSLtechnologies in order to ensure multi-vendor interoperability.”

Accelity CO chipsets offer full-rate DSL performance and provide density, cost, power, and functionality benefits. The CO system solution includes Conexant’s full-rateVDSL digital signal processor (DSP) and analog front-end (AFE) chipsets, providing ATMand packet support on a per port basis.

Accelity VDSL CPE solutions deliver advantages in performance, functionality, andcost, and are targeted at modems, Ethernet bridges/routers, wireless local area network(WLAN) and broadband residential gateways, and integrated access devices (IADs). Thechipsets are based on the company’s field-proven Integrated Software on Silicon (ISOS)platform, which minimizes software development time and provides a fast migration toVDSL for the company’s current DMT ADSL customers.

Conexant’s CO and CPE semiconductor solutions include a full range of standardsbasedintegrated circuits, software and reference designs for asymmetric and symmetricDSL applications. Additional products include a highly integrated, multi-application COnetwork processor for the next-generation of intelligent DSL access equipment.

Availability and Pricing

The Accelity product family is available today. To accelerate time to market, complete CO and CPE reference designs for ATM and packet-based VDSL/VDSL2applications are also offered.

The CO ATM and packet chipset solutions are priced at $15.00 per port in quantitiesof 100,000 each. The CPE ATM and packet chipset solutions are priced at $17.00 per portin quantities of 100,000 each.
