CommunicAsia 2011: Tablet Fever

SINGAPORE -- CommunicAsia 2011 -- Amongst the mobile broadband, video delivery and cloud services chat at this week's Asia/Pacific telecoms jamboree, expect to hear a lot about new tablet computers and the impact their use will have on communications networks.

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is all set to be showing off its MediaPad at the event, while a number of companies will be shouting about how they can help reduce the stress on mobile networks caused by the volumes of data traffic generated by the increasing use of tablets and smartphones. Among those companies are Bytemobile Inc. , which focuses on the management of video traffic, and Wavion Inc. , one of a number of companies focused on data offload using Wi-Fi. (See Bytemobile Ekes Out More Capacity and Wavion Brings Wi-Fi to the Great Outdoors .)

Other companies expected to announce news at CommunicAsia include Arantech , Genband Inc. , Metaswitch Networks and Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT).
