STOCKHOLM -- Xelerated, the price/performance leader in network processing today announced a new high performance NPU targeting service routers and advanced service edge applications and General Availability of its fully featured Metro Ethernet Application. The current X11 product family with X11-s200, X11-d200 and X11-d240 is used in more than 60 customer designs for Carrier Ethernet switches, Ethernet-over-Sonet in transport platforms, GPON/EPON OLTs, DSLAM aggregation systems and routers.

The new device, named X11-d240t, adds processing capacity for very advanced high performance systems such as service routers and advanced service edge applications. The X11-d240t has been developed in close cooperation with Tier I customers that are planning to deploy programmable 24 Gbps full duplex single chip solutions in sophisticated networking systems. The X11-d240t delivers a full feature set without any performance degradation and still maintains significant headroom for future feature requirements.

Xelerated's Metro Ethernet Application (MEA) is now generally available. MEA has been developed together with Xelerated's customers and it is today the basis for multiple production systems. MEA provides a feature rich and standards compliant application and serves as a foundation for network equipment vendors to use either as-is for production systems or as a basis for enhancement with customer proprietary and differentiating features. This feature-rich and scaleable application is fully integrated into Xelerated's "Dataflow Architecture" and is supported across the entire X11 product family.

A complete Carrier Ethernet Layer 2 feature set is supported which includes Provider Bridging (802.1ad), Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB, 802.1ah), Provider Backbone Bridge Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE, 802.1Qay) and VPLS, as well as Layer 3 features including MPLS LER/LSR, IPV4/IPV6 routing, L2/L3 VPN, Multicast, OAM (802.1ag), IP tunneling, ACLs and diagnostics SW. MEA provides hardware acceleration of OAM functions such as continuity check (IEEE 802.1ag), automatic learning/aging and fast table updates. MEA supports a robust C-API for integration with custom developed software and runs on all members of the X11 NPU family as well as on Xelerated's developments kits and Harpoon Metro Ethernet Switch.

"I have witnessed many customer successes based on MEA. MEA provides a rapid return on investment and fast time-to-market. Typically a customer gains between 6-12 months in time-to-market and saves somewhere between $1-2 million in SW development cost", said Thomas Eklund VP Marketing and Business Development at Xelerated.
