SHANGHAI -- ImmenStar, the pioneering designer and supplier of xPON network-on-a-chip solutions that enables equipment manufacturers to provide Quality-of-Service for voice, video and data over passive optical networks, has announced expansion of its R&D facility in Shanghai, China.

The company's breakthrough fully integrated next generation xPON chipsets offering Network-on-a-Chip functionality, will become the nucleus of a range of high-bandwidth, low-cost optical network products being developed by Chinese based equipment manufacturers.

ImmenStar's imminent dual mode G/EPON chipset will enable local manufacturers like ZTE, Huawei and others to reduce their product development lead-times and transitioning of end-to-end optical service offerings, by now being able to build one product for global markets.

When questioned about his views on optical network deployment opportunities in China, Duncan Clark, Managing Director of BDA China said "With internet users growing to 123 million within 9 years from 0.6 million in 1997, and with 50 million current broadband subscribers, there is tremendous potential for PON to become the preferred network architecture for the deployment of converged applications for businesses and triple play services to residential subscribers."
