Huawei's 3G Reveal
7:10 AM -- Is there anything Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. won't do in the mobile arena?
Not content with chewing away at the mobile infrastructure and handset businesses of its many global rivals, the Chinese giant now seems set on pitching its tent on the mobile baseband chip turf of Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) and other big-name players, reveals ABI Research.
What does this mean, then, for the LTE chip market? Will the Chinese giant throw its lot in with the likes of Broadcom Corp. (Nasdaq: BRCM), Freescale Semiconductor Inc. , Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC), Qualcomm, ST-Ericsson et al? (See MWC 2011: Betting on the Next Chip M&A Deal.)
And what adjacent market will be next on Huawei's radar? Branded phone socks?

Huawei's ambitions for HiSilicon are reasonably well-known -- to eventually take-on Qualcomm. However, it will be a long-road. Seems like mostly the lower-end devices go with the HiSilicon stuff so far.
