STOCKHOLM -- Olof Sahlén, Ph.D., has joined Comlase (Stockholm, Sweden) in the role of Vice President of Engineering. In this position, Dr. Sahlén will direct development of the company’s next generation, high volume Nitrel® process reactor. Comlase Nitrel® technology enables manufacturers of semiconductor lasers to increase the manufacturing yield, performance and reliability of their product by eliminating facet oxidation and related failure or degradation mechanisms.

Dr. Sahlén brings over 20 years of experience in the development of photonic components and telecommunications systems. He has held positions as Vice President of Engineering at Optillion, Manager of Laser Development at Ericsson Microelectronics, Senior Scientist at Ericsson Fiber Optics Research Centre, and Scientist at the Institute of Optical Research, Stockholm. Sahlén received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, and is also an Associate Professor there.

"Laser manufacturers who have investigated Comlase Nitrel® technology at prototype volumes would now like to integrate it into their own production processes," states Alfred Feitisch, Comlase President and Chief Executive Officer. "As a result, development of a next generation Nitrel® reactor, which can support high volume production, is a top priority for Comlase. Dr. Sahlén brings us the experience necessary to accomplish this in the minimum possible time."
