ARRIS scored a huge coup earlier today, announcing that Comcast has placed an order for at least 1.2 million of the vendor's E-MTAs over the next two years.
Under the purchase agreement that the two companies signed, ARRIS will supply Comcast with two different voice modem models -- its Touchstone Telephony Modem TM402 and its "next-generation" Touchstone Telephony Modem TM502. ARRIS also agreed to equip the E-MTAs with battery backups for service reliability in case of power failures.
The agreement will likely help keep ARRIS as the top E-MTA supplier around the world. In 2005, ARRIS shipped more than 2.3 million E-MTAs globally for a 35.7% market share, easily putting it ahead of second-place Motorola.
