Comcast Adds Discovery to 'On Demand Online' Trial

Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) keeps adding content partners to its On Demand Online trial, with Discovery Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: DISCA, DISCB, DISCK) becoming the latest cable programmer to make its video content available online to select subscribers.

The Discovery Channel will be the 24th cable network to join the broadband video initiative, which seeks to make TV content available online to users that have already paid for it through their cable or IPTV subscriptions. Discovery Channel programming will begin showing up on Comcast.com and Fancast this week for the 5,000 Comcast subscribers that are currently participating in the technical trial.

As part of the trial, Discovery is making the fourth season of its Emmy-nominated show Man vs. Wild and new series Swords the day after the episodes air. New episodes of Discovery's Verminators will also be part of the trial, but will not be available until a week after episodes appear on television. In addition to these new shows, the network is also adding past episodes of Storm Chasers to the online lineup.
