BELMONT, Calif. -- Vyatta, the leader in open networking and network virtualization, today announced Vyatta Version 6.0, the latest release of the company's open network OS containing complete routing and network security software. Vyatta version 6.0 includes the new Vyatta Remote Access API which enables customers to control Vyatta systems using in-house and third-party network management and provisioning systems. This version of Vyatta includes more than 30 enhancements for both the Vyatta Core and Vyatta Subscription Edition, and introduces the first Vyatta Plus enhanced services.

The Vyatta Remote Access API dramatically simplifies network management for large deployments of Vyatta systems within enterprises and cloud-based service providers. As more businesses standardize their physical and virtual networks on Vyatta, the new API significantly lowers operational costs by enabling fine-grained control over any number of Vyatta systems from the customers' existing enterprise management and provisioning systems.

Version 6 also marks the move to an open-core delivery model where Vyatta will maintain a single, open "core" code base which is available as Vyatta Core 6.0 (VC6) and is also incorporated into the Vyatta Subscription Edition. This model enables Vyatta to innovate even faster by accelerating the delivery of updates to all Vyatta users at the same time. While the Vyatta Core will contain all open source components of the Vyatta system, the Vyatta Subscription Edition will deliver additional value-added features such as the Vyatta Remote API. And, as a third new layer of value, Vyatta Version 6.0 also offers Subscription customers the first Vyatta Plus add-on service, VyattaGuard web filtering that helps organizations implement Internet security policies and promote workplace productivity.

"As we continue to scale our network in Australia and New Zealand, Vyatta is our platform of choice for BGP routing," said Ben Matthews, Senior Network Engineer at Telarus. "As global routing tables continue to explode it delivers significant scalability and exceptional value. Many of the new features in Version 6.0, including netflow support and Vyatta's API, offer significant advantages in our ability to monitor and manage our growing network."
