Charter Shows Lovett Some Love

5:45 PM -- Charter Communications Inc. 's business card supplier probably has a new order on its hands after the MSO removed the "interim" tag from Michael Lovett's title, and named him the MSO's permanent president and CEO. (See Lovett Becomes Charter's Permanent CEO.)

The move to permanence is effective immediately and comes almost four months after Charter's last head honcho, Neil Smit, left to become president of Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK)'s cable division -- an appointment that gives Comcast COO (and former cable division prez) Steve Burke time to dedicate toward the MSO's pursuit of NBC Universal . (See Smit Leaves Charter for Comcast , Charter Names Interim Chief, and Comcast to Take Control of NBC Universal.)

Charter, which recently emerged from a Chapter 11 reorg, said it went with Lovett after conducting a national search for a new CEO. (See Charter Exits Chapter 11.)

Lovett joined Charter in 2003 and had served as its EVP and COO since 2005. He's got more than 35 years in cable, serving with MSOs such as Jones Intercable and AT&T Broadband, which are both now part of Comcast's cable kingdom.

In other personnel moves, Charter EVP and CFO Eloise Schmitz will leave the company when her contract expires in July 2010.
