SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) announced that Celestica, a world leader in electronics manufacturing services (EMS), chose to design the Fujitsu 10 Gigabit Ethernet single chip switch into its Advanced Mezzanine Carrier (AMC) Blade for the Advanced Telecommunications Computer Architecture (ATCA) Chassis Design.

Celestica will incorporate the Fujitsu 10Gbps Ethernet switch, the MB87Q3140, as the AMC switch fabric for the carrier grade Telecom equipment developed for leading telecommunications suppliers Introduced in mid-2003 by Fujitsu Laboratories of America and Fujitsu Microelectronics America, the industry's first 10Gbps Ethernet switch chip was developed for layer 2 functions in high-performance server designs. The single chip switch enables system designers to develop compact cost-effective switches, and switch fabrics. The twelve-port 10Gbps Ethernet switch chip provides a bandwidth capacity of 240Gbps. Advanced TCA is a specification developed with inputs from more than 100 different electronics systems designers and manufacturers.

Advanced TCA features a common backplane that supports a broad range of industry standards including 10 Gigabit Ethernet, InfiniBand, PC Express and others. It is targeted for use in the carrier-grade, high-end Telecom systems and IT and military applications. ATCA features a flexible switch fabric architecture, and standardized line cards, which makes these systems ideal for replacing more expensive, proprietary equipment.

"We are pleased to make this announcement," said Keith Horn, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Fujitsu Microelectronics America. "Advanced TCA system is now gaining significant share in the telecommunications industry, with major worldwide EMS providers like Celestica, along with leading service providers, making the commitment to deliver the reliability, manageability and serviceability that is now available with the Advanced TCA platforms."
