In a sign of the rapid spread of cable telephony throughout the U.S., Cedar Point Communications announced Thursday that it has now deployed enough voice-over-IP (VoIP) switches to support 1 million phone lines.
Cedar Point says it hit the milestone with a fresh deployment of its Safari C3 Multimedia Switching System by Charter Communications. Charter's central divison received the winning shipment earlier this month.
The equipment vendor notes that it reached the 1 million-line capacity level less than two years after it shipped its first Safari C3 switch. Charter, which is now rolling out VoIP nationally to catch up with the other large MSOs, says Cedar Point has been "instrumental in helping us accelerate our telephone service rollouts in 2006."
