MADRID -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced the successful completion of a joint test on Software-defined Networking (SDN)-based IP and Optical synergy with Telefonica, one of the world’s leading integrated operator in the telecommunication sector operating in 24 countries.

Based on commercially available Huawei Routers and Optical Transport Network (OTN) and Reconfigurable Optical Add-drop Multiplexer (ROADM) optical transport platforms, Telefonica and Huawei jointly completed a series of tests on SDN based IP and Optical synergy, including multi-layer restoration, multi-domain Label Switched Path (LSP) creation, online network survivability analysis, and so on. The new elastic SDN-based IP and Optical network architecture uses centralized controller, Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) User-Network Interface (UNI), IP/MPLS, PCEP (Path Computation Element Protocol) and other key technologies to realize centralized control of the multi-layer multi-domain network, achieving E2E fast service provisioning, multi-layer restoration for improved service availability and CAPEX savings, and online network surveillance for preventive maintenance.
