Leading Lights Finalists: Most Innovative SDN Deployment (Network/Data Center Operator)

Applications taking advantage or the network include high performance computing, NFV, general networking, and networking research. The network pushed over 65 petabytes of data in November 2014.

SDN powers the Equinix Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) Cloud Exchange (ECX), which allows individual enterprises in 19 markets worldwide to connect to multiple Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) using a single port. Enterprises can directly connect to ECX by co-locating in Equinix's data centers, or connect via a network service provider. ECX currently provides Layer 2 services and is rolling out Layer 3 and Layer 4-7 services.

ECX allows enterprises to manage differing performance, security, and availability service level agreements from multiple CSPs, as well as their varying connectivity requirements. Equinix's customers save costs and provisioning time, receive service assurance benefits, get global market reach, improved performance, and security.

Layer 2 Cloud Exchange is now available and used in in 19 markets. One Layer 3 service and one Layer 4-7 -- a NAT service -- are now in beta release, with other Layer 4-7 services under development.

Masergy Communications

Its SDN Platform provides a foundation for IT for an open, automated and programmable network environment, going beyond simple connectivity to deliver embedded real-time analytics and control, advanced threat management, global cloud unified communications and high-performance network functions.

Masergy provides the Intelligent Service Control mobile app to allow IT administrators to modify bandwidth, respond to network modification requests, submit trouble tickets and more on any Android or iOS mobile device anywhere in the world. The company's Cloud Router can be rapidly deployed in conjunction with its on-premises Managed Router to meet customers' changing business requirements and application performance needs. Masergy's Network Security Sensor provides threat management for the company's cloud firewall service. And Network-as-a-Service with Self Service lets customers quickly and cost-efficiently connect corporate branch offices and remote locations at bandwidths from 1 Mbit/s to 100 Mbit/s.

The Leading Lights 2015 winners and newest class of Hall of Fame inductees will be unveiled at the Leading Lights awards dinner, which will be held the evening of Monday, June 8, at Chicago's Field Museum. The star-studded soirée will follow a day of special workshops covering topics such as SDN, 5G and Carrier Ethernet for the Cloud that take place ahead of Light Reading's Big Telecom Event (BTE), which this year is being held at the McCormick Place Convention Center on June 9 and 10.
