Cyan Embraces the Bashful Yeti

Ray Le Maistre

What's the best gift you could hope for this holiday season? A new tablet? Your favorite Booker Prize winner in original hardback? World peace?

Well, get jealous, people. Nirav Modi, director of software innovations at the software-defined networking (SDN) player Cyan Inc. , has you all licked. (See: DukeNet Takes SDN to Demo Phase.)

Modi recently took delivery of the prize he won at the Leading Lights awards dinner in New York on Oct. 1. In front of more than 200 fellow guests, he spun a giant wheel that contained the names of the Top 10 Most Ridiculous In-Flight Magazine Products and lucked out when the wheel stopped at the "Bigfoot, the Bashful Yeti" Tree Sculpture.

Modi's spin of the wheel followed that of Ola Elmeland, vice president of marketing at Transmode Systems AB , who snagged the Pipe of Gandalf. (See: What Are They Smoking at Transmode?)

No, we are not making any of this up.

As you can see in the pictures below, Bigfoot has been warmly welcomed into the Modi household. He is even being allowed to explore the frozen habitat in which he is most comfortable.

We're happy that Bigfoot has found a good home. Now we're waiting to see if Modi sends in a new set of pics that show his house trashed beyond repair.

What do Yeti charge for yard work anyway?

Re: What's the name?
Hello Ray,

Tenzing, as he is known in our family, is taking his afternoon nap. He is fairly shy and spends most of his time looking out of the window at the snow and back yard. He enjoys his romps out there... now if I can get him to work the snow blower...

These are the only pics available -- he does keep a low profile...

Re: What's the name?
"During the awards dinner, I figured the prizes were just a joke..."

Sarah, we don't do jokes. You should know that by now.

To hammer home that point, please watch the company video again:

Re: What's the name?
Doesn't look to be anything bashful about that yeti.

Re: What's the name?
You are clearly not the one who had too much eggnog, MarkC!

This is hilarious. During the awards dinner, I figured the prizes were just a joke, but I should've known Light Reading would deliver. Keep that in mind for future giveaways, people!! :)

Re: What's the name?
Classic, and here I thought it was a serious article and I was trying to figure out what the title was alluding to.

Maybe I had too much eggnog.

What's the name?
All credit to Nirav for joining in with the spirit of the awards, and to the Transmode team previously too with the Pipe of Gandalf.

Of course, we want to know what name has been given to the Yeti, now that s/he is part of the Modi household.
