Avi Lands a Role in Cisco's NFV Box

Cisco's application delivery controller (ADC) strategy has gone through a few different phases in recent years, the latest being a reseller agreement with Avi Networks.

The deal, signed last week, focuses on the Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) CSP2100, a server targeting NFV deployments. The CSP2100, combined with other Cisco pieces such as Nexus 9000 switches, forms what Cisco calls the Secure Agile Exchange -- a virtual fabric that connects a user to multiple clouds. That kind of work needs a load balancer, and that's where Avi Networks comes in.

But the virtual-ADC startup's involvement with Cisco goes beyond that; Avi has "four or five touch points" with the router giant, including some deployments with Cisco's Tetration analytics platform.
