CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Canoga Perkins, a worldwide leading supplier of fiber optic extension equipment, announces the unveiling of one of the industry's most cost-effective OC-48c Coarse Wave Division Multiplexers (CWDM) systems specifically designed for the SAN and Metro environments. The new Canoga Perkins Model 6703 CWDM system can immediately increase your applications capacity by eight times without installing any additional fiber. The new 6703 is fully ITU standards compliant and ships assembled and ready to install. It is virtually plug and play.

The new Canoga Perkins Model 6703 OC-48c system uses industry standard CWDM wavelengths compliant with ITU-T standards and integrates the industry's first CWDM loopback function. The local and remote loopback function assists in troubleshooting of the link and provides a cost-effective way of pinpointing problems. The 6703's unique bandwidth measurement capability that monitors users' actual traffic rates, known as SpeedCop, can report back to a central location in real time so network administrators can monitor the system.

The 6703 CWDM's transponder complies with all SONET, SAN and Ethernet specifications with complete protocol independence. What you put in is what you get out with no encapsulating of data or other data affecting applications to slow down throughput or cause possible corruption. This is fastest and safest way to transport traffic at high speeds.

The 6703 CWDM is fully rate agile. Any data rate from 100 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps is supported on a single module. This simplifies the process significantly because you only need to buy and stock one module. All the popular protocols and applications are supported such as Fast Ethernet, ESCON, FICON, Fibre Channel, SAN, Digital Video, SONET, ATM, OC-3c, OC-12c, OC-48c and Gigabit Ethernet. The Canoga Perkins 6703 CWDM system has a total throughput of 20 Gbps to move heavy amounts of traffic!

The 6703 CWDM system uses high optical power lasers to achieve distance extension of up to 80 km without regeneration. This saves cost by not requiring additional repeaters and allows for new application development because of the greater distance traffic can travel. Remote sites are now within reach to allow new application development.

Redundant optics and redundant load sharing auto ranging AC or DC power supplies are available to ensure maximum uptime. The cooling fans are alarmed and should one fail you will be notified immediately so you can take corrective action before it becomes an issue. The power supplies are also alarmed for overheating conditions.

To increase application flexibility, the 6703 CWDM system can be ordered in a 19-inch or 23-inch rackmount chassis or it can be ordered in a standalone enclosure. A local console port permits remote management and access to the user interface when installed in standalone enclosures.

Remote management plays an important role in today's complex and distant communications networks. The 6703 is fully SNMP managed and is supported by CanogaView, Canoga Perkins' Smart Element Manager. The web browser based CanogaView Smart Element Manager is included at no charge as part of the 6703 CWDM system. Remote Reset is also a standard feature on the 6703 CWDM system to aid in management.

Jack Buhn, Canoga Perkins President and CEO, stated, "The addition of the OC-48c 6703 CWDM system to our existing EdgeAccess Universal Chassis System compliments our entire WDM product line and offers a high quality cost-effective alternative to other more expensive and complex systems. The 6703 is NEBS Level 3 tested and certified meaning it is designed tough. It has undergone high temperature testing, fire tests, surge tests, shock tests and Earthquake Zone IV testing. This guarantees the reliability and robustness of the system for use in a co-located environment with other Carrier Class equipment. Our ISO 9001:2000 certification guarantees the quality we have become known for."
