LONDON -- Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications group, today (25 April 2003) announced that it has been selected by NTL to carry the UK cable operator’s international IP data traffic. The company joins three other premium IP transit providers to ensure that NTL’s internet product range maintains its reputation for high quality performance. NTL sought an IP transit provider that can deliver the high levels of quality, reliability and availability it required in order to satisfy its growing broadband internet customer base. It selected Cable & Wireless because the resilience and low latency of its network translates into fast and reliable internet access for customers. As one of the leading providers of broadband in the UK with over 650,000 customers, NTL also wanted a provider with sufficient scale and capabilities to enable it to capitalise on the growth of broadband in the UK. According to a recent Oftel report, there are currently 1.77 million broadband users in the UK. Andrew Sangster, senior vice president, Service Providers UK, Cable & Wireless said: “Whether NTL’s customers want to download web content, buy online, send emails or connect their own websites, it is imperative that their internet access is readily available, reliable, and efficient. We are delighted that NTL has chosen our high-quality IP network to enable them to provide exactly this to their customers.” Cable & WirelessNTL Inc.
