Picking up the pace from a sluggish winter, CableLabs approved a whopping 17 devices in its latest certification wave, which concluded last week. That's more than five times the number of devices that CableLabs approved in the year's sleepy first certification wave, which ended in March. Specifically, the cable R&D consortium passed six embedded multimedia terminal adapters (E-MTAs), two media gateways, two cable modem termination systems (CMTSs), one DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem and one call management server (CMS) in its busy Certification Wave (CW) #34. In a first, CableLabs also approved five PacketCable Multimedia policy servers for interoperable use. The lis of winning vendors included Motorola, Cisco-Linksys, Arris, BigBand Networks, Netgear, Thomson, Terayon, Ambit, Sonus, Nuera, CableMatrix, Telcordia, Tazz Networks, Camiant and C-Cor.
