The XO Metro Wavelength Service (MWS) is a protected service that provides carrier and enterprise customers with high bandwidth and protocol transparent flexibility at a low cost per megabit. By offering a protected service, XO can manage and maintain its customers' services and provision additional metro wavelengths, all without service interruption. Made possible by XO's deployment of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment in its metro fiber networks, XO MWS provides each customer with a wavelength of light on a fiber optic strand, which is used exclusively for that customer's service and can operate at different bit rates and support different transport protocols (e.g., SONET, ATM, IP, etc.).
