Thomson's Sharp Schutter

10:35 AM -- French vendor Thomson S.A. (NYSE: TMS; Euronext Paris: 18453) has lured yet another Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) executive into its fold.

Having already hired former president of Alcatel Europe, Jacques Dunogué, as senior executive VP of the Systems division (set-top boxes, IPTV middleware, softswitching), Thomson has now added Tiaan Schutte into its fold. (See Thomson Fuses VOIP & IPTV and Alcatel Suffers First Merger Casualty.)

Schutte, now general manager of Software Service Platform at Thomson's Systems division, was previously VP of Alcatel-Lucent's Information, Communication & Entertainment (ICE) business unit (hence, the ICE man), and had been working as part of the giant vendor's IPTV team. (See Thomson Fuses VOIP & IPTV and AlcaLu 'Ads' to Its TV Program.)

Now he's jumped across Paris to join the vendor whose middleware underpins the Orange (NYSE: FTE) IPTV service, which now has more than 1 million subscribers. (See French Carriers Ramp Up IPTV Subs and Top Ten: IPTV Carriers.)

Schutte joins, though, just as Systems is struggling to meet the expectations of the Thomson board. The French company announced disappointing overall results this week, with the firm noting in its press release that "the Systems Division performance is clearly unsatisfactory."
