Mark Cuban on tru2way: Open It Up

Just checking in between sessions here from at our latest Light Reading Live event from sunny Los Angeles.

Mark Cuban, the co-founder and chairman of HDNet (among many, many other things), helped to kick off the event by sitting down for a wide-ranging interview with Heavy Reading senior analyst Alan Breznick.

As you might expect, Cuban had plenty to say, including some interesting thoughts about tru2way , U.S. cable's attempt to create an common interactive platform for digital TVs and set-tops, with an eye toward the development of a retail distribution play.

Cuban says tru2way has the potential to create huge opportunities, but has a beef with it: "It's got to become more open. Right now it's a definitive walled garden."

We'll have more details on this soon, including some reaction to Cuban's position from the cable folks.

Update: Here's the follow-up story.
