thePlatform Takes a Latin Twist
Not long after releasing the latest update to its multi-screen video publishing system, thePlatform Inc. is taking mpx south of the border. (See thePlatform Places Live TV Bet.)
LSDLive, a leading live-event producer in Argentina, has licensed mpx to offer a comprehensive set of publishing services to media companies throughout Latin America. The deal combines thePlatform's integrated workflows for managing live and on-demand video with LSDLive's own event production capabilities. The Argentinian company specializes in production, encoding, uploading and technical support services for live events.
Along with the new partnership, thePlatform and LSDLive (which, by the way, is an offshoot of the content distribution network Latinstock and not a Timothy Leary project) have announced several customers for their cloud-based video services. Among them are several TV channels, an online network, the third-largest newspaper in Argentina and the country's largest media conglomerate supporting major music events.
As an independent subsidiary of Comcast Corp., thePlatform has always made clear its ambitions to operate outside of the giant U.S. MSO's own footprint. Its other big customers outside the U.S. include BT Group plc, Liberty Global Inc., Telstra Corp. Ltd. in Australia and Sky TV in New Zealand.
