The Next Big Thing: Better GUIs
On a panel titled "Converging Pay TV & NetVideo: How, Why & When?" I asked the panelists what could be the next technology "Black Swan" for digital content -- in reference to Nicholas Taleb's book about disruptive, unexpected events. The idea is that a single technology development, such as what Netscape did for Web Browsing or what Google did for search, might instantly drive the digital content business to the next level.
Suprisingly, nearly everybody on the panel zeroed in on the consumer interface. In particular, they pointed out how bad the interfaces are with current digital TV systems. This makes sense, considering that Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) largely succeeded in transforming the music industry with a better interface for music.
