TelcoTV '09 Kicks Off
Although this is the eighth annual show, telco TV as a service has been around for just over a decade now. I vividly remember back in the late 1990s learning about those telcos who were navigating unchartered territory with video via DSL and all of the challenges that brought. We’ve come a long way since then.
This year’s show includes more than 20 service providers, from the largest with AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), to the smallest with West Texas Rural Telephone, sharing their insights into what is now a more mature business model, yet still not without its significant challenges.
There are new issues to explore, including competitive threats from over-the-top video and an energized cable industry. There are new technologies to understand, including DSL bonding and 3D TV. There are new strategies to study, including the digital home and TV personalization. We’ll be doing a deep dive into these and other important issues as the telcoTV ecosystem converges on Orlando.
You can follow along on Twitter -- we’ll be documenting the show at #ttvshow. If you’re in Orlando with us, share your experience as well.
