EXTON, Pa. -- In order to better serve members of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), the SCTE Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce today the addition of four new members to the Foundation Board: Chris Bowick of Cox Communications, Jim Hughes of CommScope, Mike LaJoie of Time Warner Cable, and Ken Wright of ARRIS.

The SCTE Foundation Board now stands 10 members strong. The four additions join Keith R. Hayes of Charter Communications, Foundation president; John Clark of SCTE, Foundation vice president; Greg Allshouse of Comcast Cable Communications, Foundation treasurer; Mike Phebus of Jones/NCTI, Foundation secretary; Bob Gold of Bob Gold & Associates; and Yvette Gordon-Kanouff of SeaChange International.

The SCTE Foundation’s primary mission is to provide expanded educational opportunities for SCTE members to assist them in their professional development within cable and telecommunications engineering. The SCTE Foundation was established by the SCTE Board of Directors in 2005 and began issuing grants in 2006. The Foundation has helped more than 40 SCTE members with a combined total of approximately $70,000.

Bowick is senior vice president, engineering and CTO with Cox and has held that role with the company since 2000. He is responsible for strategic technology development and day-to-day technical operations, including the development and deployment of telecommunications services, such as circuit-switched telephone, Voice over IP telephone, high-speed data, digital video, video-on-demand, and interactive television. He is also responsible for network engineering and operations, including national backbone, Metropolitan Area Networks, and HFC networks. An SCTE member since 1981, Bowick has also worked for Jones Intercable, Scientific-Atlanta, and Rockwell International.

Hughes is executive vice president, broadband sales and marketing with CommScope, his employer since 1995. Prior to joining CommScope, he was employed by Belden Wire & Cable, where he was Belden’s national sales manager, broadband products between 1990 and 1995. During his 12 years with Belden, he gained experience through various sales, marketing, and operations management positions. Hughes is actively involved with NCTA, SCTE, and the Walter Kaitz Foundation in promoting the cable industry’s supplier diversity initiatives. He has been an SCTE member since 1990.

LaJoie is executive vice president and CTO with Time Warner Cable. He has been responsible for the development and implementation of technology strategy for video, data, and voice products, technology support, network operations, and the advancement of industry standards and policy. Before becoming CTO in 2004, LaJoie served as executive vice president of advanced technology and vice president of corporate development, overseeing the deployment of video-on-demand system launches and other new services and products. He has been involved in many development projects with Time Warner Cable, including Multi Media, Full Service Network, Road Runner, Pegasus, and Telephony. Prior to joining Time Warner Cable, LaJoie worked in software development and network systems design. In addition, he was a NASDAQ broker/dealer. He has been an SCTE member since 2002.

Wright is the CTO of ARRIS. In this role, he is focused on industry technology initiatives and the integration of ARRIS’s legacy and acquired products. Prior to joining ARRIS, Wright was CTO of C-COR, where he participated in diversifying and reshaping C-COR into a leading global provider of HFC network equipment, OSS/BSS solutions, and on-demand platforms. Wright has more than 25 years of leadership experience in analyzing and implementing technology advances. Prior to joining C-COR, Wright was the CTO for cable MSO InterMedia Partners. Under his technical leadership, InterMedia rebuilt its cable systems with state-of-the-art networks and rolled out advanced services across its customer base. He has also worked for 21e.net, Jones Intercable, United Artists Cable, and Centel. He has been an SCTE member since 1986.
