Reader Poll: Who Will Win the World Cup?

So we already know who the CEOs of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) and Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) are backing in this year's FIFA World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa. (See World Cup Fever and 2010 World Cup Predictions.)

And courtesy of Michael O'Hara, CMO at the GSM Association (GSMA) , we know it'll be a while before the Irish can move on from the Hand of Henry.

Now we want to know which team you -- yes, you -- think will win the coveted trophy.

What, I hear some of you ask, has this got to do with the development of the global communications industry?

Absolutely nothing (say it again)... so enjoy!

Let's see if Light Reading's readers are descendants of Nostradamus or can't see further than the end of their collective nose.

VOTE NOW!!!

Only one vote for the Buckeyes so far...

Are people voting for the US out of patriotism, or because they think it's even funnier than North Korea....?

Good to see the readership recognize the underdogs once in a while.  Sure, its easy for a qualified country to win, but a college (American) football team not even invited?  What an upset that would be! (yes this is a joke).  Have a great week everyone.

Make that 2 votes for the Buckeyes! (I suspect Keith from Aricent is one of those...)

Spain and the USA are the early favorites, tho...

It will be no joke when the USA beats England in the first group stage.... there will be tears and a great deal of schadenfreude (from the Scots in particular) to go with them.

Hey! how about a USA v North Korea final?  Maybe they can settle the sinking of the South Korean Navy ship amicably ;)

Hey Chocodude, do you remember the last World cup final between France and Italy?

"Amicably" doesn't seem to belong the footbal/soccer jargon. Halas!

Hopefully this year we'll get better examples of fair play...

Up to 4 votes now. The Buckeyes have one more vote than Germany at last check. JB

The words of one Lothar Matthaus, "Football is a simple game of 22 men running around for 90 minutes.... and then the Germans win" :-)

I'm afraid that was Gary Lineker, famous english striker from the late 80s. And BTW, the only reason for believing in the germans this year is precisely that they're german(-ish, look at the surnames). Otherwise, they've been performing poorly in the last four years.
