Today's cable news roundup kicks off with a forecast that U.S. pay-TV operators will shed more subscribers in the third quarter.

Miller Tabak + Co. LLC Media Analyst David Joyce expects U.S. pay-TV providers to collectively lose 48,000 video subs in the third quarter -- contrasting with a gain of 12,000 in the year-ago period -- as service providers continue to deal with high unemployment, a tough housing market and consumer belt-tightening. He expects cable MSOs to lose about 493,000, Dish Network LLC (Nasdaq: DISH) to shed 40,000 subs and DirecTV Group Inc. (NYSE: DTV), AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Verizon Communications Inc. Despite its lukewarm reception in the U.S., Google TV will make its debut in Europe early next year. "We are absolutely committed to staying, to improving Google TV," Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Chairman Eric Schmidt told broadcasters at the Edinburgh International Television Festival in Scotland. Pace plc says its C30 set-top is the first device to be certified by the RVU Alliance , the group behind a client/server architecture that lets service providers deliver a consistent user interface to every TV in a customer's household. DirecTV is expected to support RVU in a new whole-home platform that will launch later this year. (See DirecTV Tests RVU.)

Dish has launched the Tailgater, a ten-pound, US$350 portable satellite system that the company unveiled in May at its Retailer Summit in Denver.

Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK)'s all-digital Project Cavalry initiative has rolled into Sacramento, where some customers will need to use simple Digital Terminal Adapter (DTA) devices to view channels that will no longer be offered in analog format. (See Comcast's $1B Bandwidth Plan .)

The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) says it has certified more than 100 products, including routers, set-tops, cable modems and Ethernet-to-coax bridges. About 85 percent of all MoCA-certified products are used by pay-TV operators.
