7:00 AM -- At least 11 local ISPs and cable operators in Bulgaria are merging to form Bulgarian Telecom and Television (BTT), which will have 150,00 customers and reach 1 million households, reports Novinite.

Bulgaria has been a highly fragmented communications and entertainment services market, but this merger, plus the acquisition of two cable operators by Telekom Austria AG (NYSE: TKA; Vienna: TKA) in September, are part of a much needed consolidation process that should eventually benefit customers, introduce more robust competition for national operator Vivacom , and help deliver the greater broadband penetration forecast for the country.
