IPTV Goes Dutch

9:25 AM -- EuroBlog is heading to Amsterdam today for the giant IBC2008 broadcast and telco TV show that, with any luck, will be a hotbed of IPTV scandal, gossip, rivalry, and recrimination.

Well, we can always hope.

But even if such delights aren't to be found, the event is shaping up nicely, with Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) continuing its efforts to be the next big thing in end-to-end telco TV, and established giants such as Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) set to make several announcements later in the week. (See Ericsson Takes On IPTV Giants and Europe Gears Up for IPTV Showcase.)

It's also clear that the IPTV sector has definitely moved on from the "Phase I" basics of enabling linear TV delivery over broadband to more complex "Phase II" issues, such as audience and service monitoring, value-added service creation, and targeted advertising strategies. (See IPTV Is Entering Phase II: Thomson.)
