IBC Day 1: WIP

9:00 AM -- AMSTERDAM -- IBC2008 -- No wonder so many folk don't arrive on Day 1 of this quite massive broadcast technology/IPTV industry event -- it's basically still a WIP (work in progress), a building site, with miles of unprotected cable lying around the walkways and builders' bums very much in evidence. (See IPTV Goes Dutch and Europe Gears Up for IPTV Showcase.)

That's because the show floor doesn't open until noon on Day 2, so wise and experienced IBCers -- an extensive club to which EuroBlog does not currently belong -- stay away until then, holding meetings in Amsterdam hotels and cafes.

With the conference program more likely to induce sleep than provide meaningful insight, that means there's little in the way of good story material (gossip, speculation, general naughtiness) as yet, so we're abandoning the event and heading into the city for meetings, and will return Friday to hit the show floor and figure out what, and who, is hot at this year's event.
