Comcast May Come Up Short
The new 975-foot tall Comcast Center opened its doors in the City of Brotherly Love last month with much fanfare, including a massive 27-foot by 87-foot hi-def video wall. Comcast is moving its executive offices into Pennsylvania's highest building.
Comcast's towering position in downtown Philly may soon be dwarfed, however. Developers are pitching plans to construct a structure more than 500-feet taller.
The proposed American Commerce Center (ACC) will stand at 1,500 feet, including a spire. If built, it will be the third tallest building in North America, trailing only two other skyscrapers now under development.
No word yet on whether the new ACC will include a bigger HDTV screen than Comcast's HQ, or whether Verizon will buy the naming rights in an attempt to exacerbate cable's physical plant inferiority complex.
