Billions & Billions

Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK)'s s PR department would make Carl Sagan proud. The MSO announced another multibillion milestone for its video-on-demand (VOD) service. (See Comcast VOD Views Hit 7B.) Comcast said cumulative VOD program views topped the 7 billion mark in mid-March, up from the 6 billion views the MSO announced in early December.

The MSO's monthly view rate climbed from 250 million in December, to 275 million in March. At that pace, Comcast's PR team may be able to trumpet an 8 billion VOD view announcement in June. Of course, in the name of numeric elegance, it may be better to wait for the big 10 billion announcement heading into 2009 -- that's a one with 10 zeros.

Comcast says its VOD users now watch 40 million movies a month. The MSO hopes those numbers will continue to climb through its "Project Infinity" initiative. (See To Infinity & Beyond!) No word on whether Comcast plans to start selling popcorn.
