Best Leaves Concurrent Board

Arris Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS)'s gain is apparently Concurrent Computer Corp. (Nasdaq: CCUR)'s loss.

Soon after Arris closed the book on its acquisition of C-COR Corp. on Friday, Alex Best -- a cable technology vet and the former EVP of engineering at Cox Communications Inc. -- informed Concurrent of his election to resign from the Concurrent board of directors. (See Arris Cuts, Divides Following Merger and Arris Sews Up C-COR.)

Best, it appears, also serves as a director for Arris, another Atlanta-area vendor. With C-COR now firmly in the fold, a conflict of interest emerged, because Concurrent and C-COR were long-time competitors in the video-on-demand (VOD) sector. Best joined the Concurrent board in 2001, soon after his official retirement from Cox.

Best's "decision to resign was not due to any disagreement with the Registrant," Concurrent noted in an 8-K document filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) .

But apparently he agrees just a smidge more with Arris.
