Cisco Strikes Olympic Gold

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) waited until two days before the Summer Olympics kickoff in Beijing to boast that it landed a contract with NBC to supply its video encoding products to allow the network to deliver video to TV, PCs, and mobile phones.

NBC said it plans to use Cisco’s IP video infrastructure and encoding system to allow producers in New York and Los Angeles to edit video as it is captured in Beijing and deliver it to multiple platforms.

I am curious as to what gear Cisco is using and how it differs to the Ericsson solution. Maybe tailored for low bandwidth applications?

re: Cisco Strikes Olympic Gold Why would they do that? Its not like they closed the contract 2 days before the games! Looks like a weak retort to the Notel announcement of the London Olympics win... Is Crisco really paying attention to Notel?!!
