Viddle Me This

4:15 PM -- Here's something a little different in the video-sharing world: Viddler, which was founded seven months ago and has been online for about half that. Never mind what they've got content-wise. Their gimmick is the ability to tag a video with bookmarks that appear as little white dots on the timeline at the bottom of the screen. You can augment these with text notes for yourself or another viewer, and you can create URLs that link directly to that point in the video.

This comes from founder Robert Sandie's experience in college football. He'd send videos of his games to his parents, but without editing them down. It got tiresome telling his folks where to find his highlights, so he devised a way to create these bookmarks in Flash.

A little trick like that probably isn't enough to sustain a whole business, but at least Viddler has something that might make it worth acquiring.
