Swiss Tap Into IP Smarts

6:30 AM -- Having shelled out more than €3 billion ($4.2 billion) to buy Fastweb SpA (Milan: FWB), Swiss incumbent carrier Swisscom AG (NYSE: SCM) is looking for intellectual as well as financial payback from the Italian triple-play pioneer. Swisscom announced Friday it has appointed FastWeb's former head of Customer Operations & Technologies, Guido Garrone, as the man now responsible for Network & Informatics (CTO). (See Swisscom Names CTO.)

"His new role at Swisscom means that this know-how is now also available to the whole of the Swisscom Group," notes the Swiss vendor.
