MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced Stratford Mutual Telephone Co. has deployed the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch to support delivery of voice, data and cable television services to rural Iowa via its state-of-the-art, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network.

Stratford, an independent operating carrier (IOC), has provided communications services to its local community for more than a century. With the promise of new technologies such as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and pending regulatory requirements, Stratford is replacing its legacy network with IP-based network technology, including the Tekelec 7000 switch.

Stratford was able to upgrade its entire network, including replacing copper with fiber optics and implementing a new back-up power system, with the assistance of RUS funding. Randy Baker, general manager at Stratford Mutual Telephone Company, said, "We are excited about the new business opportunities this will bring to our community, which is located nearly 60 miles north of Des Moines. The Tekelec 7000 enables us to deliver advanced voice, Internet and video services that generate revenues and drive customer satisfaction. With Tekelec, we have a partner with a proven track record in the IOC marketplace, future-proof technology and the highest level of customer support. We have a deep-rooted history in Stratford, and we plan to be around to celebrate our 200th anniversary."
