MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced Stratford Mutual Telephone Co. has deployed the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch to support delivery of voice, data and cable television services to rural Iowa via its state-of-the-art, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network.

Stratford, an independent operating carrier (IOC), has provided communications services to its local community for more than a century. With the promise of new technologies such as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and pending regulatory requirements, Stratford is replacing its legacy network with IP-based network technology, including the Tekelec 7000 switch.

Stratford was able to upgrade its entire network, including replacing copper with fiber optics and implementing a new back-up power system, with the assistance of RUS funding.
