SpectrumCo LLC -- the Sprint/MSO joint venture that takes in Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications Inc., and Advance/Newhouse Communications -- confirmed Thursday morning that it won advanced wireless spectrum licenses in 137 metro markets throughout the U.S. The consortium, which gained more licenses than all but one other bidder in the six-week auction, took home the prizes after pledging $2.37 billion in top bids to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
In a joint press release, the five partners said the licenses "provide many options and significant flexibility as the SpectrumCo partners evolve their plans for wireless." But they declined to spell out which options they might pursue. Instead, they said they "will fully evaluate all options, including possible testing in limited markets," over the next few months.
