LIVERMORE, Calif. -- Alloptic, Inc., a pioneer in the development and deployment of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), the ultimate communications network for today and tomorrow, announced that Smart Telecom PLC, the fastest growing provider of telecommunications in Ireland, is deploying the Alloptic fiber access network solution to provide voice, data, and IP video services in new multi-dwelling unit communities and mixed-use developments.

"As we reviewed our technology options, Alloptic was the only equipment provider to offer a truly converged service platform that we needed for delivery of Smart Telecom's 'Digital Village' products and services," said Oisin Fanning, Chief Executive Officer. "With the bandwidth available on the Alloptic system, we are able to flexibly add and to and reconfigure what services we offer our consumers. Whether it is our IP video, video-on-demand, security monitoring or network-based PVR functionality, our optical access network allows us the flexibility to offer consumers a superior mix of services at extremely competitive rates. Using the Alloptic GEPON architecture gives us the freedom to quickly expand our network into new areas, as well as how and where we configure our head-end facilities."

"We are pleased to be working with Smart Telecom as they deliver true broadband services to multi-dwelling units, mixed-use developments, and new communities throughout Ireland" said Mike Serrano, Director of Product Marketing for Alloptic. "Most telecommunication providers that have built or upgraded their core network transport to Gigabit Ethernet, extending Ethernet technology all the way to the consumer, represent the next logical step in the modernization of the communications infrastructure. Using Alloptic's Gigabit Ethernet PON solution, Smart Telecom is able to provide a proven, IP network all the way to the customer."
