New targeted service delivery transmitter from Scientific-Atlanta boosts bandwidth for interactive TV

ATLANTA -- In order to widely deploy interactive services to their digital cable subscribers, cable operators are focused on bandwidth utilization and cost. Scientific-Atlanta today unveiled its new Prisma II(R) Targeted Service Delivery (TSD) Transmitter, designed to cost-effectively make more bandwidth available per subscriber. "As more and more subscribers sign up for VOD interactive services, cable operators are faced with a need to dedicate more bandwidth per subscriber, reducing the number of homes sharing the same optical transmission over the last mile of the Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network," said Paul Connolly, vice president of marketing and network architectures for Scientific-Atlanta. "Our new Prisma II TSD Transmitter addresses that problem by enabling cable operators to cost-effectively dedicate a transmitter per node, which delivers three times the bandwidth typically available. Scientific-Atlanta knows that targeted bandwidth allows cable operators to offer more individualized interactive TV services, which will result in lower churn and increased consumer satisfaction." Available immediately, Scientific-Atlanta's TSD transmitter is offered in 3 and 5 dBm optical output powers that enable a 1:1 ratio of transmitters to nodes in most network applications.
