SAN ANTONIO -- SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC - news) today announced the availability of Multi-Service Optical Networking solutions that will provide businesses with an efficient and scalable way to connect mainframes, data centers and storage networks within a metropolitan area. These new offerings, available through SBC's subsidiaries' - SBC Southwestern Bell, SBC Ameritech, SBC Pacific Bell, SBC Nevada Bell and SBC SNET, greatly enhance SBC's optical networking and Data CPE product portfolio. Customers now can benefit from an SBC managed service that delivers a dedicated, high-speed optical network utilizing dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) to create protocol independent high bandwidth optical connectivity. "Optical networking architectures are continuing to make tremendous strides in the metropolitan arena," said Nick Maynard, research analyst, the Yankee Group.
