PASSFIELD, U.K. -- Patapsco Communications, the telecoms engineering specialist, has launched the Liberator series, a range of ISDN cross-connect multiplexors. Ideally suited to carriers, large corporates, systems integrators and distributors/resellers, the Liberators offer the ultimate in flexibility, enabling users to maximise the use of expensive ISDN circuits and drive network distances, allowing carriers to span the ‘last mile’.

There are two systems in the Liberator series: Liberator-S and Liberator-Duo.

Liberator-S

Liberator-S is a cost-effective ISDN multiplexor that combines the functionality of an ISDN converter, switch, emulator and drop and insert mux with enhanced features and flexibility. Available in a variety of models offering from one to 3 PRI ports and 4, 8 or 16 BRI ports, the system is easily upgradeable and offers a wide range of potential applications.

It allows users to share and contend between their PRI and BRI channels so ensuring that they are fully utilised. As many expensive ISDN channels are not used to maximum capacity, contention can provide users with substantial cost savings. The Liberator is also especially suited to videoconferencing applications.

Liberator-S can provide an enabling or integration tool for corporates or systems integrators wishing to migrate to VoIP. Using Liberator-S the user does not have to re-number DDIs for the new IP PBX, and no reconfiguration of PBXs is required. The system is also ideally suited to setting up low cost mobile gateways.

Carriers can benefit from Liberator-S as it allows them to free up spare cable pairs to buildings. It can be used to deliver multiple PRI, BRI and Fractional E1 to customer sites using a single, low cost circuit, so leaving capacity for other services.

Liberator-Duo

Liberator-Duo expands the range of capabilities by offering a two-wire ‘U’ and/or ‘S’ interface. This enables carriers to ‘break out’ and extend their existing network, for example, adding up to an extra 3-5km with 2-wire systems. This will allow them to deliver services direct to the consumer without the need to install expensive copper cabling.

Additionally, each Liberator-Duo unit has up to 4 PRI and 16 BRI interfaces, to provide full conversion, contention and sharing of PRI and BRI circuits.
