STOCKHOLM -- Recently, Svenska Bostäder’s student broadband network in Kista outside of Stockholm was installed. A Swedish end-to-end solution made it possible for the students to – from the same day as the equipment was installed - get access to a number of services, including telephony and video-on-demand. On the first evening, 18% of the students had registered and gotten access to the services of their choice.

Svenska Bostäder’s network is called “Kista Student Broadband Network” and comprises of the so called Campus and Gedser areas. Totally 440 apartments are connected to the broadband network – a network focused on operator neutrality and freedom of choice for when it comes to both vendors and services.

This is the fourth open broadband network in Svenska Bostäder’s group of residential areas. Svenska Bostäder invests in the passive infrastructure, while renting the active network out to a communications operator who is responsible for operations, support and connection of service providers.

"The Kista Student Broadband Network is built in full compliance of the operator independence business model," says Clas Engerstam at Svenska Bostäder. "We wish to act as network owners, and hire an independent communications operator for activation, operation and connection of service providers."
