Here's what's causing cable's pond to ripple today:

Private equity firms are expected to lead bids for Insight Communications Co. Inc. during the next couple of weeks, and Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) and Charter Communications Inc. may also be interested in buying the MSO and its 750,000 subscribers in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

Multiplatform viewing helped the number of U.S. homes with a TV to drop by 2 percent last year, to 96.7 percent, according to The Nielsen Co. (See Comcast CEO Dismisses Cord-Cutting Trend .)

Video revenue at Charter dipped 1.9 percent in the first quarter, while high-speed Internet revenue rose 4.3 percent. (See Despite Sub Losses, Charter Increases Revenue.)

Cablevision tucked a new 50Mbit/s (downstream) Docsis 3.0 tier inside a sub-US$100 "Ultimate" triple-play bundle that includes a wireless router and the MSO’s Optimum Link service, which relays PC content to the TV screen. (See Now Showing: Your PC Content on Cablevision.)

Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) subs don't have access to HBO Go, the new app being distributed by its former corporate sibling for Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL)'s iPhone and iPad. About 80 percent of HBO homes can use the app, including those served by Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), DirecTV Group Inc. (NYSE: DTV) and Verizon Communications Inc. Motorola Mobility LLC claims to have bonded 11 return path channels to produce a EuroDocsis 3.0-based upstream that topped out at 288 Mbit/s. Moto hit the mark using a 5MHz-65MHz return path and the RX48, Moto’s new dedicated upstream cable modem termination system (CMTS) blade, at this week's at this week's ANGA Cable Show in Germany. The average U.S. home spent nearly one-third of waking hours in March watching ad-supported cable networks, according The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau (CAB) .
